Loneliness and the relationship between man and nature.

A alma do osso is an experimental documentary about  Domingos Albino Ferreira (also known as Dominguinhos da Pedra), a 71-year-old man who has lived alone for 41 years in caves in the countryside region of Itambé do Mato Dentro, Minas Gerais (Brazil). He survives on a meagre pension from the Brazilian government.

It starts with an epigraph by Guimarães Rosa: ‘Loneliness is too much for ourselves’. There are no dialogues or interviews in this documentary, and almost no speech. Practically all the information we receive comes from the images and sounds that characterize the countryside: beautiful landscapes of green hills and the sea, the man’s cave and the sounds of nature.

Not until the creation and maintenance of decent conditions of life for all people are recognized and accepted as a common obligation of all people and all countries – not until then shall we, with a certain degree of justification, be able to speak of humankind as civilized.

The documentary film critically analyses what is considered socially relevant in a new education system which brings out the most potential in all of humanity whilst also detailing specific educational methods from a wide range of sources on how to nurture social skills, critical thinking techniques and a larger variety of important practices to positively reinforce from our earliest years onwards. It must be recognized that a sustainable education is one of the most critical components of any advanced society.
