Loneliness and the relationship between man and nature.

A alma do osso is an experimental documentary about  Domingos Albino Ferreira (also known as Dominguinhos da Pedra), a 71-year-old man who has lived alone for 41 years in caves in the countryside region of Itambé do Mato Dentro, Minas Gerais (Brazil). He survives on a meagre pension from the Brazilian government.

It starts with an epigraph by Guimarães Rosa: ‘Loneliness is too much for ourselves’. There are no dialogues or interviews in this documentary, and almost no speech. Practically all the information we receive comes from the images and sounds that characterize the countryside: beautiful landscapes of green hills and the sea, the man’s cave and the sounds of nature.

Not until the creation and maintenance of decent conditions of life for all people are recognized and accepted as a common obligation of all people and all countries – not until then shall we, with a certain degree of justification, be able to speak of humankind as civilized.

Seeds of Freedom (2012)

The film highlights the extent to which the industrial agricultural system, and genetically modified (GM) seeds in particular, has impacted on the enormous agro-biodiversity evolved by farmers and communities around the world, since the beginning of agriculture. Seeds of Freedom seeks to challenge the mantra, promoted by the pro-GM lobby, that large-scale, industrial agriculture is the only means by which we can feed the world. In tracking the story of seed it becomes clear how the corporate agenda has driven the take over of seed in order to make vast profit and control of the global food system.

The story of seed has become one of loss, control, dependence and debt. It’s been written by those who want to make vast profit from our food system, no matter what the true cost.
It’s time to change the story.
